Boots Badgers 4 v 1 South Notts Badgers

Sunday 19th October - 12pm Pushback - Ladybay

Boots Junior Hockey Academy

It was a dream start for Boots who were strong from the whistle with great passing on the right from Mike Mayor and Jake Fish that led to the first chance of many in attack with a narrow miss from Aaron Blunt. For 10 minutes Boots were on the attack and with patience the ball was played around the field to use all players on the pitch with ease.

Edward Beamont made strong passes up front to link with Felix Brown and on the first attack from South Notts Conner Gamble showed everyone how to time a tackle to perfection to put Boots back on the attack. The first of many short corners was awarded and from a slip left Jake had a shot well saved by the goalkeeper.

Boots kept the ball moving and with great movement up front Alfie Green received the ball in front of goal South Notts tried to clear frantically but finally after a great pass from Harry Songhurst Mike Vipond struck home the first goal, the only thing Boots need to work on is their goal celebration!

Nolan Rivers took to the game like a duck to water even though he had not played for 5 years and worked well at the back with Steve (Pirate) Firth and Phil Short. Jim O'F, Andrea and Charlie all worked hard up front keeping the options open and ensured Boots maintained space when attacking.

In defence GK, Brian (Dangerous) Thompson remained calm through out calling and organising the players to keep Boots to formation. However this wasn't enough to prevent South Notts equalizing with a slightly lucky goal via 2 deflections.

The second half again started well with Boots maintaining most of the possession, Dan Freeman showed skill and speed as he made some cracking runs up the left hand side, Joe Saczek switching play kept the Goal keeper busy as he was tested many times, making some fantastic saves. Eventually Boots turned their possession and skill into goals and Charlie claimed a hat trick as he repeatedly cut in from the left and put well placed shots beyond the South Notts GK.

With 15 minutes left, Boots put all their juniors on the pitch and they showed great determination and full commitment to keep out a string of short corners from South Notts and yet still having the energy to mount further attacks.

A fantastic start for the Badgers team - well done to everyone who played and a special thanks to Kay Fish for umpiring.
