Boots Hockey Academy, in only its 3rd year, today reached the semi-finals of the HA U11 county cup. This is the first time in the club's 104 year history that Boots has entered the junior county cup (the first round of the national HA cup). The juniors performed brilliantly and after coming top of their group, unbeaten and without having conceded a goal were only knocked out by Beeston in the semi-finals by losing on penalty flicks.
The first game against Lowes Wong ended 0-0 as Boots failed to convert a number of good chances although Dan Culpin came close. Boots won both the 2nd and 3rd games against BeestonBees and St. Peters 1-0 with goals from Jonathon Cobb and Joe Blaney whilst Sam Holley and James Gorden kept things tight at the back. The last pool game was against West Bridgford who needed to win to progress but great harrying from Luke Cobb combined with strong runs from brother Jonathan and clinical finishing led to a 3-0 win with a hat-trick for Joe Blaney.
Boots came top of their pool with the most wins in the whole competition and were drawn against BeestonGold in the semi-final. Tom Palframan captain for the day led from the front as Boots created a number of chances with the Beeston GK pulling off a fantastic save from a Felix Hills shot to keep Beeston in the tie. At the other end Lewis Mawer in goal was called upon for the first time in the competition to make a good clearance. At the final whistle it ended 0-0 and the tie had to be decided on 3 penalty flicks. Beeston won through 2-1 with James Caron scoring for Boots. Beeston went on to win the competition and progress to the regional rounds.
Congratulations to everyone who played. All the hard work in the rain and cold on Monday nights paid off as Boots played fantastic passing hockey making all the parents and especially coach Steve Caron very proud.
